In the “Quiet” devotional, I mentioned that Jesus would go to a quiet place to pray, and be with God. This is a true statement, but Jesus also knew how to disrupt the social norms for the sake of righteousness!

Every aspect of Jesus’ life disrupted the order of things in the world, and to this day His life is still just as impactful. From the time of birth, throughout His lifetime, to His ascension back to Heaven you will find Jesus disrupting what the world expected. Let us take a look at how Jesus set the world on a new trajectory.

  • You can’t begin the story of Jesus without mentioning His conception. Mary, His mother, became pregnant through the Holy Spirit. See Matthew 1:18-25
  • At His birth you would expect the Messiah and Savior of the World to be brought into a lavish life of luxury. On the contrary, He was born in a field, and slept in a manger. Luke 2:5-6
  • During his childhood He would astonish the teachers of the time with His understanding of scripture and the world. Luke 2:47
  • He miraculously healed the sick, and it is worth mentioning, often on the Sabbath day. This upset the religious leaders because it went against Jewish culture. Matthew 12:10, Mark 3:1-6, Luke 6:7, Luke 13:14
  • He overturned tables in the temple, and cast out those who turned the temple into a marketplace. Matthew 21:12-13
  • He walked on water and disturbed laws of physics. Matthew 14:22-33
  • He died on a cross, and rose back to life three days later. Matthew 27:45-54, Mark 16

Of course these are only a few examples of how Jesus challenged the norms of society, physics, and life itself! John 21:25 says it best, “Jesus did many other things as well. If every one of them were written down, I suppose that even the whole world would not have room for the books that would be written.”

Finally, Christianity gives us a very clear path to Heaven. It is not through forgiveness from animal sacrifices. It is through salvation in Jesus Christ. Because of God's grace and mercy. God sacrificed His Son for the sake of our soul.

If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 (NIV)

If this is your first time reading or learning the way to salvation, then I encourage you to find a church, or a Christian friend to help you grow in your relationship with Christ.
