This verse in Proverbs 4:7 and Roosevelt’s quote share the same truth—everything in life comes at a cost. You’ve probably heard it said that something is only as valuable as what someone is willing to pay for it. So, my question is: What are you willing to exchange for wisdom? How much is it worth to you?

Imagine if you could only choose between having all the riches in the world but lacking wisdom, or being humble yet wise. Which would you value more? Would you choose temporary wealth or the ability to serve God through wisdom? Thankfully, we don’t have to choose between the two, because wisdom itself leads to life, riches, and protection. Money can only provide one of the three—riches.

Consider these powerful verses and reflect on which you would rather have:

Blessed are those who find wisdom, those who gain understanding,
for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.
She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.
Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who take hold of her;
those who hold her fast will be blessed.

Proverbs 3:13-18 (NIV)

Wisdom, like an inheritance, is a good thing and benefits those who see the sun.
Wisdom is a shelter as money is a shelter, but the advantage of knowledge is this:
Wisdom preserves those who have it.

Ecclesiastes 7:11-12 (NIV)
